Best Time of Year for a Lake Tahoe Photoshoot
5 min read

Lake Tahoe is photogenic year-round, but each season delivers a distinctly different look. Choosing the right time of year for your photoshoot can mean the difference between fighting crowds in a parking lot and having an iconic overlook nearly to yourself.
Spring (April–June)
Spring brings fresh greenery, flowing creeks, and noticeably fewer crowds than summer. Snow may still linger at higher elevations through May, which can add drama to mountain backdrops.
Light is soft and the lake often has glassy mornings. Outfits with light layers work well as temperatures swing through the day.
Summer (July–August)
Summer is peak season — warm beach evenings, long golden hours, and full lakefront access. Book photographers and venues 6–8 weeks ahead for popular weekends.
Sunrise sessions are a smart way to beat crowds at iconic spots like Sand Harbor and Emerald Bay.
Fall (September–October)
Fall is one of the best-kept secrets for Tahoe photography. Aspens turn gold, crowds thin out, and the light is warmer. Aim for late September through mid-October for peak color.
Layered outfits in earth tones photograph beautifully against the autumn palette.
Winter (November–March)
Winter delivers snow-laden pines, frozen lake edges, and a moody, distinctive look. Plan around weather windows, dress warmly, and confirm road conditions the day before.
Winter sessions tend to be shorter (45–60 minutes) due to limited daylight and cooler temperatures.
